the Lord is good! i have been shopping eBay for months now looking for a double stroller for the boys. since trip is only 2 yrs old, he has a short attention span & gets distracted easily when we are at the grocery store or the mall (he tends to wander off). since i have this innate fear that someone is going to snatch him (thank you media & t.v. for this fear), i stress out trying to keep my eye on him & get my errands done at the same time. we do have an “elmo belt”…aka kid leash… that i have used a few times, but really have been looking for a stroller so they can both ride.

monday night we went to our couples care group bible study at our friend’s house. one of their neighbors (who has 7 kids) had 3 stollers sitting on the edge of her yard. our friend brenda yelled up the street to her neighbor to see if they were for sale. lori, the neighbor, said they were free… FREE!! chuck & brenda went up there to check them out since i needed to nurse quinn. lo & behold… one of the strollers was a cosco double tandem stroller…. the EXACT brand & type of stroller i had been searching for, but couldn’t afford!!!!!!! How good is God??? i cleaned it up yesterday & chuck took the boys for a walk in the neighborhood last night. AMAZING!

last thursday, quinn had his first taste of rice cereal. i can’t believe he is almost 6 mths old already!! he wasn’t really sure what he thought about it as you can see in the photos, but by the end of the meal he was getting pretty good at eating it & even flashed a smile or two for the camera! the photo pages on our family website are having issues & i can’t upload any pictures right now. until i figure something else out, i’ll post new ones here. also, i added a link to the slideshow our friend michelle did for us w/preggo pics & quinn’s 3 mths pics. she did such a great job & i still look at it every once in a while. enjoy!!

it’s amazing to me how much a 2 yr old can parrot back the things we say when we least expect it. while getting trip dressed yesterday, he (as usual) was kicking his legs & trying to squirm away. i asked him what he was doing. he said matter of factly, “i’m just freaking out!”. i doubled over in laughter as i was not expecting him to say that. he took my cue, started laughing, & followed it up with, “that’s funny, trip!”… as if to give himself a ‘high-five’ for his humorous comment. i guess i’ve told him to stop freaking out one too many times…

so… i now know why some animals eat their young & why some humans beat theirs. i almost ended trip’s life yesterday after 2 attempts on the potty to “poo poo” (because i knew he needed to go). after he sat on the toilet 2 different times for at least 10 minutes each time with no success (& telling me that he didn’t have any poo poos), i put his diaper back on & went to check on quinn. after just a couple of minutes in quinn’s room, i soon found trip standing on his stool hiding behind the curtains in my bedroom doing what? pooping in his diaper, of course. this happening less than 5 minutes after i got him off the potty & after we had a conversation about not pooping in the diaper & telling mommy when you need to go. i almost lost it. after much fussing from me & crying on his part, he chose a spanking over time out for a punishment & then at the last second re-nigged on that. he got a small spanking anyway followed by the 5,000th conversation about how big boys go in the potty & not in the diaper. so… potty training is not going so well. this is a prayer request more than anything else… pray for my patience and wisdom to figure out the best way to train trip. otherwise, he might be the 1st kid ever in middle school still wearing diapers…. if he lives that long….

well, it’s 6:55am & i have been up for an hour already. trip woke up a couple of times last night crying & saying, “Mommy don’t go!”. these were his words as i put him to bed last night & i guess they stuck in his mind when he woke up. chuck got up with him the first time and got him back to sleep. then i heard quinn on the monitor about 5:55am. since he was not crying (only talking to himself), i was hoping if i ignored him for a little while, he’d go back to sleep. no such luck since trip woke up for the second time at 5:57am. i begrudingly got out of bed to quiet trip & then went to check on quinn since i didn’t hear him anymore. i was suprised to find him flat on his back (he sleeps on his tummy against all recommendations by the SIDS researchers). this is the second time we have found him this way in the last 2 weeks, though he hasn’t yet rolled over any other time. when he saw me looking into his crib, he gave me the biggest smile & his arms & legs kicked in excitement. i was not happy about being awake this early in the morning, but a greeting like that could make anyone smile, even at 6:00am. so after feeding quinn, he is now propped up on some pillows playing as i write. maybe i’ll catch up on my missed sleep tonight…
